General
With the growth of water based flow coating mold
washes, the need has arisen for a simple, quick, economical approach to
pre-heating and drying molds processed with flow coating. Based on this
need, Palmer Mfg. has teamed with a leading expert in the infrared drying
market to develop a line of heaters specifically designed for the foundry
mold coating industry.
Features
- Instant On / Instant Off Capability
- 0-100% Adjustable Power Output
- Independent Lamp Zone Control
- Integral Forced Air Blower
- Energy Saving Idle Mode
- Designed for both Flaskless and Flasked
Molds
Operation
The FCS-D Series of dryers operate only on
demand. Whenever the dryer is not in use or a drying cycle has expired, the
heating unit will automatically shut off, eliminating the high operating
costs associated with constant run gas or electric dryers. This also aides
in process consistency in that molds will not become over-processed.

Batch Type Heating
- Mold is placed under or rolls beneath
drying unit.
- Heating cycle is initiated either by
operator input or automatic mold sensing switch.
- First stage heating cycle initiates
infrared emitters to quickly heat the mold surface and begin to drive
off water vapor and runs for a preset time.
- Second stage heating cycle initiates
operating not only the infrared emitters but also a small amount of warm
forced air. This coupling of heat and air movement rapidly dries the
mold surface.
- The second stage cycle stops
automatically and the mold is either pushed out or indexes as controlled
by the conveying system logic.
Continuous Type Heating
- Mold enters a series of heaters and
moves continuously through the heating unit.
- Heating panels power upon entry of the
mold and run only as required. If the panels are staged, as the mold
passes the first stage, it will turn off, saving energy while the second
stage or further continue to operate.
Mounting and Shielding
The FCS-D can be mounted in several ways. The
most common approach is hanging. The heating grid can easily be suspended
from hanger bolts or a free standing frame. These units are generally
mounted with the grid facing a manual or powered roller conveyor but can
also be mounted on angles or vertical depending on the process requirements.
These units do not require shielding as standard
as the method of heating is directly on the mold surface, not a general
volume. Shielding can be added for a slight increase in drying efficiency.
Shields consist of high temperature canvas or the like.
Available Sizes
The FCS-D comes in a wide variety of standard
sizes but can also be custom built to your exact specifications. For sizes
larger than listed, simply add sizes to create the necessary heating grid
size.
